The enigma of Treason

“Why do they do it?”

Asks the spy catcher to the recruiter.

“Is it like they say?

MICE?

Money, ideology, corruption, ego?”

The recruiter shakes his head.

“It’s not like they say.

It isn’t that simple.

Men commit treason, but

Not for some easy reason.”

“They do it for revenge.

They do it for love.
They do it for hope.

They do it for their children, and

They do it for their future.”

“Treason is an enigma.”

The recruiter looks across the table.

“Men are mysteries.

To their colleagues, to their lovers,

And to themselves.

Treason is just another mystery.”

“So, how do you do it?”

“What do you mean?”

“How do you get them to spy?”

The recruiter answers,

“They are already there.

We just give them a little push.”
